Film Friday: Red Riding Hood

Friday, February 25, 2011

I have come up with my own meme, Film Friday. Every week I will talk about a movie that is being adapted from a book. I will update you with news of the upcoming film. This week's topic is the upcoming movie, Red Riding Hood!

The movie is based on the book by author Sarah Blakley-Cartwright, which is based on the screenplay written by David Leslie Johnson. I am excited to read the book, and I hope the movie will be fantastic, seeing as it was made into a screenplay first.

When I first heard about the film, I though, ugh, Twilight has taken over again. I loved the Twilight books, but they seem to be making a lot of the same movies and books now. All centering around the love story between a real and fantastically creature. Also, I was worried it would be another take on Twilight when I heard that Twilight's director, Catherine Hardwicke, was directing this film, and a few of the cast members were being transplanted into the woods. It didn't help that the actor playing the werewolf auditioned for the role of Edward Cullen, and almost made it. However, I have decided to overlook the things that tie it to the Twilight Saga, and try to enjoy the movie as the seperate entity it is.

The lead character, Valerie, is played by Amanda Seyfried. I am looking forward to seeing her in this more serious role. I thought she did a great job in Dear John, which I much prefered to her more comedic roles in Mamma Mia and Mean Girls! The other lead, Peter, is played by Shiloh Fernandez, who, in my opinion, looks like he could be a wolf. His eyes are wolf-like, I think.

One other thing that has drawn me to this movie is the fact that Leonardo DiCaprio is producing it. If he is on board with the project, I am going to watch it, because he is my favourite actor. Everyday I see the Titanic, and "I'm the king of the world!" flashes through my mind.

I hope this movie lives up to my expectations! It will be in theatres on Friday, 11th March, 2011.
