I recently saw The Hunger Games movie as the dvd was released last week. OH MY. It was even better than I remembered *fangirls*. My expectations were blown away in the movie theatre, but they were shocked again by the details I saw when I watched it for the second time at home.
Sure, there were a few details that bothered me, such as the Mockingjay pin. Katniss didn't find it in the Hob, it was given to her by the Mayor's daughter when she visited Katniss before being taken to the Capitol. Their was no mention of her, but I can understand the reasons behind it. Overall, it was probably the best book to movie adaptation I have ever seen!
I love the original Hunger Games book, because it set the scene and introduced you to the characters and the horrors of the Hunger Games. However, the second book, Catching Fire, has always been my favourite. I think it was a more in depth look at the world and the relationships between characters, because the basics had already been written. Hopefully they do the movie sequel justice, and it can live up to the sky-high expectations after seeing the Hunger Games!
Josh Hutcherson was the best shock for me. When he was cast, I was completely against the idea of him playing my beloved Peeta. After seeing the movie, he was my favourite cast member! The acting he did was SO Peeta, it was great!
Jennifer Lawrence was another reason I was skeptical. How could a 20-something actress be good enough to play 16 year old Katniss Everdeen. Yet again, I was proven wrong. She was definitely a fantastic actress, really capturing the essence of Katniss. If she doesn't win movie awards for her role, I will be shocked.
Liam Hemsworth... He was a great background actor, if that makes sense? He kind of set up the scene for other people to shine by being low key about his role. Although he wasn't how I pictured him, I thought he did a good job as Gale.
Overall, five stars for an incredible adaptations which exceeded my expectations!
